Billy and Me
by

When school was out and we were free,
Billy and me,
we’d
play all day and capture frogs
as boys might do today.
We had our tea in long dry grass,
did me and Bill,
with
jam and bread and stone cold tea,
we picnicked with the best..
We fished for tiddlers in the pond,
my mate and me,
with
water jars and home made nets,
we looked for monster fry.
We blazed a trail in Tangle wood,
as boys will do,
with
shaded eyes and ears alert
we tracked fresh jungle spore.
We paddled in the rippling stream,
my pal and me,
with
shouts and cries we’d kick away
bloodsuckers at our feet
All summer days, so long ago,
with Bill and me,
were
long, were hot, were very wild,
but, best of all care free!
