Bright Days
Billy and Me

Bright days

by Ztan Zmith

They were bright days:

golden days;

good to be alive days.

Days when the sun shone

and it hardly ever rained.

Days by the sea side:

donkey rides;

shrimp nets and rock pools.

Castles made of sand

and leaky little buckets

Thick bread and butter,

fizzy pop

and chips by the plateful.

Running on the beach;.

grey squishy jelly fish

Four o'clock hunger

Picnic time!

Cold tea from a bottle;

yellow seed cake from a tin

and sarnies full of sand.

Time travels so fast -

beckoning home!

Sleepy heads; dragging feet;

cold platform in the gloom;

smoky, lumbering, dirty train.
