TWO PLUS ONE
My first love.
He bought me an
Eternity ring,
Tiny jewels
That sparkled
Through the sunlit
Days of tender youth.
Married at twenty one,
We grew together
And I was complacent
Until you came
Into view.
Snatched kisses
Then all too short weekends.
I soared like a kite
High in the air,
You held the strings
Steered me
Into the unknown.
And now you’re gone
He doesn’t understand
The silences, the tears
And I cannot explain.
Now his child
Stirs within my womb,
A tiny spark
To fuse, link us together
A second chance.
