THE DAY BEFORE YOU CAME
A cold spring day
But Daffodils bloomed
In the garden
And waited for the sun.
I bought a dress
Crimson as soft as silk
An invitation
For admiration
But only the mirror approved.
A solitary meal,
Microwaved and edible,
One glass of sweet white wine,
No dishwasher to load.
Time to daydream
Time to drift
But I was tired of drifting,
Longed for an anchor.
Bedtime
Warm duvet
Feather pillow
Settling down to sleep
To dream,
Alone for one more day,
The day before you came.
